Best Time to Visit Fortim:
wind, rain and tide, month by month

Fortim can be visited all year, but the weather changes what kind of trip you'll have — from the strong, steady wind that draws kitesurfers from around the world to the afternoon showers that cool down Ceará's eastern coast.

🌬️ Peak wind season

July to February: the busiest stretch

The trade winds blow strong and steady during these months, which puts Barra do Fortim among Brazil's best kitesurf spots. It's also when most visitors show up — busier beaches, more kite schools running lessons, and more life in the Pontal de Maceió village after dark.

July overlaps with Brazilian school holidays, which fills up guesthouses and pushes prices up weeks in advance. December and January bring the Brazilian summer, year-end parties and New Year's Eve — traditionally the busiest dates on the local calendar.

If you're planning to come in July or over New Year's, book your stay at least a month ahead. The most sought-after places — the same ones listed in this guide's accommodation section — tend to sell out first.
🌧️ Off-season

March to June: less wind, more rain, fewer crowds

This is the rainiest stretch on Ceará's eastern coast. It doesn't rain all day — usually short bursts in the afternoon or evening — but it's worth planning around.

If you don't kitesurf or wingfoil, this season can actually work in your favor: with less wind, the sea along the open beaches sits calmer, which suits anyone who just wants to float or relax on the sand. It's also when guesthouses tend to lower their rates and the town feels noticeably quieter.

🌊 What the season doesn't change

The tide runs Fortim all year round

Whatever month you travel, the clock that actually matters in Fortim is the tide's — not the calendar's. The lagoons at Canto da Barra, the walk to Farol beach and access to the Pontal de Maceió coves only happen at low tide, in any season.
